Arcelor Mittal: Liberia Phase II

A documentary study of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s relationship with the communities surrounding its mining operations. The film centres on local voices, exploring identity, ownership and the desire for a future shaped and led by Liberians. It examines the connection between land, labour and national self-determination.

Process

We approached the project through proximity and listening. Time was spent with community members, workers and local leaders to understand perspectives beyond the surface of industry. The camera remains observational and grounded, allowing conversations, environments and expressions to unfold without interference. The edit prioritises clarity and restraint, giving weight to the question of what local ownership truly means in practice.
